Every September, Vigan City
celebrates the World Heritage Cities Solidarity Cultural Festival. This month-long festivity, in solidarity with
other World Heritage Cities around the world, aims to strengthen the pride in
the city’s history and culture, promote friendship and diversity between
countries and serves as a great venue for forging ties and understanding
through community’s involvement in the city’s various activities that
highlights love for culture, arts and entertainment.
A lot of us Filipinos in our
country are good at unity, also known as “solidarity”; especially among the
individuals with a common interest. Let us just say that in working, helping,
and as agreeing to every each of one’s statement, yet the significance is
projected to be far-reaching.
Among the citizens of the
Philippines, we all know the rituals or temporary happenings, and perspective doings
about today’s celebration or topic. The Philippines Centennial celebrates the tyranny
of colonialism and its transformation into an independent and proud citizen of
the nation and also around the globe. The Centennial celebrates the history of
the Filipino’s struggle and solidarity. The story of the birth and growth of
his race.
As the Organization of World
Heritage Cities was created on a 8 September, it was decided, as a
commemoration of this flagship event, that 8 September be declared “Solidarity
Day of World Heritage Cities”. All World Heritage cities are invited to celebrate
this day once a year.
