Explore Science

This year’s theme, “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development,” underpins the event’s showcase on the latest innovations in technologies, products and research that can help achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In celebrating Science for this month, we are encouraged to join contests, and activities as well as cooperating such events to widen out our learnings about Science. We students of Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS) enjoyed the fun exercises that were given by the head and officers of the Science Club, and for that we embraced and appreciate Science as a part of our lives.

This activities are not created not only to enhance the skills of the students and their thinking abilities but also yielding the National Wellness of the school and create an impact of good communication. My idea on this purpose of activities is "cooperation, Unity Valuable Knowledge and creativity should be on the students for them to portray and show to every activity that they will be participating to apply it in the near future. But this are not only qualities to be added on their work but should be their greatest medium in their work. There they should apply them all and so their work will be done in a positive manner.

Be Positive

VIGAN CITY, May 30 (PIA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd)-Region 1 had launched the “Happy Schools Movement” (HSM) to boost the efficient implementation of the K to 12 basic education curriculum in the Ilocos provinces. The movement seeks to promote every school in the region as a better and enjoyable place to study.

Dr. Malcolm Garma, DepEd Region 1 regional director, said the regional launch of the HSM was held at the Vigan Convention Center in this city on May 20, 2019. It was anchored on the theme: “Paaralang Masayang Maglingkod, Tagumpay ng Bata’y Itaguyod.”

“The launching of the HSM platform is very timely as the opening of classes for school year 2019-2020 is set on June 3,” said Garma. The HSM launching coincided with the regional launch of the 2019 Brigada Eskwela. Garma cited the HSM platform as a key of achieving the DepEd Region 1 vision of having a generation of responsive and cross-culture competent future builders.

The movement aims to inculcate in the minds of pupils that school is not just a place for learning but also a place for fun and enjoyment as they enjoy what they are doing.

He said the welfare of the learners is primarily and always the concern of the HSM guided with four pillars such as responsive school leadership, relevant classroom instruction, conducive and healthy learning environment, and good governance. To attain the four pillars of HSM platform, he said the intensified collaborations of the internal and external stakeholders should be given importance.

The HSM has 15 advocacy themes in the delivery of education services to the 14 schools divisions in the Ilocos region. “Happiness and school quality are inseparable as the happy schools framework serves as reference for measuring the quality of our education,” he said. “Our credo for this movement is Region 1 is a region of happy schools with disciplined, value-laden, and motivated learning communities of holistically developed Filipinos with 21st Century skills,” Garma said.

Solidarity Celebration

Every September, Vigan City celebrates the World Heritage Cities Solidarity Cultural Festival.  This month-long festivity, in solidarity with other World Heritage Cities around the world, aims to strengthen the pride in the city’s history and culture, promote friendship and diversity between countries and serves as a great venue for forging ties and understanding through community’s involvement in the city’s various activities that highlights love for culture, arts and entertainment.

A lot of us Filipinos in our country are good at unity, also known as “solidarity”; especially among the individuals with a common interest. Let us just say that in working, helping, and as agreeing to every each of one’s statement, yet the significance is projected to be far-reaching.

Among the citizens of the Philippines, we all know the rituals or temporary happenings, and perspective doings about today’s celebration or topic. The Philippines Centennial celebrates the tyranny of colonialism and its transformation into an independent and proud citizen of the nation and also around the globe. The Centennial celebrates the history of the Filipino’s struggle and solidarity. The story of the birth and growth of his race.

As the Organization of World Heritage Cities was created on a 8 September, it was decided, as a commemoration of this flagship event, that 8 September be declared “Solidarity Day of World Heritage Cities”. All World Heritage cities are invited to celebrate this day once a year.
